Jean Di Maria is a wife and mother to two young boys. She started her blog, Moody Maria, as a way to review makeup and beauty products for her friends and family and it grew from there. Living with three males that enjoy camping, she is always in search of products that work well for travel or on the go. Moody Maria, aka “Jean”, also reviews the latest products that save time for busy moms since she is one herself. Jean works full time, volunteers as a Cub Scout leader, a room mom, and never passes up the opportunity to throw a party. And as for that saying that it takes a village to raise children? It is so true in her life as her incredibly supportive mother and mother-in-law watch her boys often and help out in more ways she can mention.
What was the first thing that made you smile today? Seeing my boys sleeping soundly before I left for work.
Who is a mama that inspires you? (Living or dead, real or fictional) My mother inspires me so much with her energy, creativity, her singing abilities, and by always having the right answer. She has always put her family #1 and it shows in everything she does. I am so lucky to have her as my role model.
What is the one extravagance you view as a necessity? I buy Trevor Sorbie Deep Conditioning Treatment and I cannot live without it. My hair simply doesn’t work unless I use it. I use it as a styling product for straight or curly hair. It somehow holds my curls better and gives my hair texture.
What cause is close to your heart? We have several holiday toy drives at my work for local children in need. I always feel drawn to donating toys because I can’t imagine a child being heart-broken on Christmas morning.
Which talent (real or imaginary) would you most like to have? I have always wanted to learn to play piano. I begged my parents for a piano when I was young but she never gave in to my dream.
What is your favorite thing to do with three hours to yourself? Workout, rush over to Target, Michaels, and maybe TJ Maxx. I am a shopaholic..it runs in my family.
What day-to-day achievement gives you renewed energy and enthusiasm? Working out on the treadmill and then a few weights at the end. I know I can be a better mom if I am healthy and energetic.
If you were a food or beverage, what would you be? Dr. Pepper for sure! Any lousy day can be revived with a cold Dr. Pepper. It is peppy and reliable, just as I hope to be to others.
If the day had an extra hour in it, and you could not spend it catching up or doing required tasks, what would you do? I would do arts and crafts with the kids. We always come up with great ideas but run out of time after soccer practice, cub scouts, and homework.
If you were the lead singer in your own cover band, what song would you sing? Sweet Child of Mine by Guns and Roses. I do a great Ethel Merman version that makes my children beg me to stop singing.
What family tradition do you look forward to most? Christmas Eve is the best! We have a fire, write letters to Santa, and videotape the kids going to bed just like my parents did. It is such a special night and the kids are full of excitement and love.
What is your most favorite holiday and tradition? My mom and dad were big into New Year’s Eve and we follow their tradition in our house. We always stay home with the kids and have appetizers for dinner. The kids get to sip sparkling grape juice and stay up late. We go outside at midnight and use noisemakers and scream with the neighbors. So much fun!
What is one thing you say to your kids that your mama never said? Get off the IPOD Touch! I have to limit their time now because they become too involved in it and ignore human interactions.
What was the funniest thing your kid did or said yesterday? My youngest son called my shoes hee-hiles. It was the cutest thing ever and I am glad I got it on video.
What is one thing that you consider yourself ridiculously good at? Party favor bags. I just love coming up with creative party favor bags and designs. I was so honored when someone told me they saved mine for a year and then reused it as a gift bag. It made my day!
Where in the world would you most like to spend a week with your family? I would love to rent a house on the beach in California. We always walk on the boardwalk and see the renters having barbeques on their patios and say, “We should do that someday!”
What is your motto? Have a positive attitude! I have to remind myself this several times a day but it really helps in all aspects of life.
Who would star in the movie of your life? I wish it would be Jennifer Garner. She is down to earth and so unlike a Hollywood mom. She was a band geek in high school and I was a choir geek. I think we could have been friends.
What do you love most about being a mom? My favorite thing is to teach my sons new things or experiences. I especially love it when they don’t want to do something and afterwards say, “Mom, you were right. I had so much fun!” Anytime my kids are happy I feel happy.
What do you and your partner do to reconnect? It may sound funny but we bond by trimming trees. He cuts them from a ladder and I trim them below. We work as a team, complete our goal, and then he takes me out to a nice dinner.
What is the single most brilliant invention (gadget, product) that makes your life as a mama easier? It would have to be the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. I recently discovered it’s magic and I am sold. Our household will never go without that item again!
What is the one strategy that keeps your family moving right along on a day-to-day basis? I try to tell my kids the game plan for the day so they are mentally prepared and don’t have breakdowns. It usually works best when we have chores, errands, and then fun. Fun can include shooting basketball with mom, swimming, riding bikes, movie night at home, or a fun project.
