There’s finally a chill in the air, I’ve finally got my Halloween ducks in a row (Medium’s Chuck Norris trucker hat better come in today’s mail!), and we’re finally carving our pumpkins tonight. This is an intentional last-minute project; carved pumpkins last about a day in the desert before they start getting moldy and collapsing. Or get attacked and eaten by wild pigs, which is highly likely to happen for us as we have a den of porkolinos, as we call them, living in the desert across the road.
With soccer practice and homework on top off all this tonight is a slow cooker tonight, and I am trying out Tatertots & Jello’s pumpkin chili with sausage. I realize it is a little premature of me to tell you about tonight’s dinner considering I have never made it before, but a little taste tells me this is going to go over just fine at the Rancho. What makes it more soup than chili is the presence of chili powder and the fact that nearly all the ingredients came from cans; I don’t cook a lot of canned stuff, but when I do, it’s chili. And when there is chili, there are chips, and when there are chips, there are happy diners at my table. I can get a lot of different things into those three little tummies when chips are involved.
What are your easy dinner plans with Halloween on the horizon? And if you haven’t entered the big fat giveaway, now’s the time, people!
